‘Renovation Island’ Stars Bryan and Sarah Baeumler Are Taking Over a Canadian Town for HGTV
Bryan and Sarah Baeumler, best known for their HGTV series Renovation Island, have officially been named the hosts of Home Town Takeover Canada, the upcoming Canada-set spinoff of Erin and Ben Napier‘s popular HGTV Home Town franchise.
The news broke via an Instagram post on Wednesday, June 3, with the duo sharing their excitement — and the enormity of the challenge ahead. “We’ve got just three months to completely transform a small Canadian town and bring it back to life,” Sarah, 48, said in the video clip.
“That’s a lot of work, and this might be one of our biggest challenges yet,” Bryan, 52, added.
“We’re using everything we’ve learned over the years to help keep this town’s heart beating,” Sarah said in the post. Bryan closed the video with a tease for fans, saying, “So, stay tuned to HGTV to find out which lucky town we’re taking over, and which special guests will be joining us.”
The Baeumlers’ involvement had been hinted at months earlier. In December 2025 Erin and Ben explained why they wouldn’t be returning as hosts for the Canada edition. “Our production company is Canadian. The people who make our show, they’re passionate about this Canadian takeover,” Erin, 40, said, per CinemaBlend. “But, because we are Americans, we are not legally allowed to host the show. We can only be in it as, like, guest stars.”
Per the outlet, Ben, 42, elaborated on the broadcast regulations at play: “Yeah, a Canadian broadcast show has to be hosted by Canadian talent. 90%; I think 90 was the number. I thought it was just a majority,” he said.
Despite the restrictions, Erin didn’t seem too disappointed about the new direction. Per the report, she was “excited to go to Canada, because I’ve never been,” and added she thinks “it would be magical, in the summer especially.” Ben had teased the eventual announcement, confirming, “We know who it is, and I can say that we really like them. It’s another husband and wife team.”
The Napiers launched Home Town Takeover on HGTV back in 2021. The series follows them and a team of renovation and design professionals as they give small American towns a full scale makeover.
