Amal Clooney Says Marrying George Clooney ‘Changed Quite a Lot’ About Her Career

Long before she became known as Mrs. George Clooney, Amal Clooney had earned international recognition as one of the world’s leading human rights lawyers.

The 48-year-old human rights advocate recently opened up about how life changed after their marriage, revealing how the line between her personal and professional worlds became much harder to separate.

While global attention came with her legal work, she says marrying a Hollywood superstar brought an entirely different level of public scrutiny.

Speaking at a Cartier Dialogues event in Bangkok on June 9, Amal said, “I used to have my work life and my personal life, and they could look quite different, and I was able to not have them mix and then I got married and that changed quite a lot.”

As per People, she recalled initially becoming more mindful of her public image, being deeply concerned that everyday decisions could influence how others saw her in her professional role.

“And at first I was kind of conscious of that one-dimensional view where I felt like, well, I can’t be seen wearing this dress or doing this because I’m in front of a judge on Monday,” Amal added.

Over time, she stopped letting those concerns dictate her decisions. “But you know it just doesn’t matter as much as living your life, and ultimately if you’re good at what you do, that is going to shine through or not,” she continued.

She wasn’t willing to sacrifice moments that mattered to her family or marriage. “It was easier when I could decide what kind of exposure I got. It was something new to navigate,” the mother of two said, as per the outlet.

Amal married George, 65, in 2014, and in 2016, the couple co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice.

She has continued to champion women’s and girls’ rights through the foundation’s legal initiatives while balancing family life with George and their 9-year-old fraternal twins, Alexander and Ella.

Today, the Clooneys live on a farm in France, trading much of the celebrity spotlight for a quieter life with their children.
