Paulina Porizkova is opening up about her decision to get married again at the age of 61 — and her reasoning is unexpectedly blunt.

On the Tuesday, June 9, episode of her and her fiance Jeff Greenstein‘s podcast, Twenty Good Summers, the pair responded to a listener’s question asking why they’ve decided to marry later in life. Greenstein is 62.

The Czechoslovakian-born supermodel joked that the “only” reason she’s marrying Goldstein, the former Will and Grace showrunner, is “I have the right to unplug you.”

“And so you have the right to unplug me. There you go,” she added, in a dark reference to life support machines.

The couple didn’t shy away from the heavier undertones behind the joke, acknowledging that while the idea “probably sounds really horrible when you’re 20 or 30,” it reflects a more grounded view of long-term commitment at this stage of life.

“It sounds really romantic to me now,” Porizkova continued. “I mean, there is death involved and it’s very dramatic. And you’re giving me the power.”

“Well, yeah, I mean, or leave you plugged in,” she added.

“It’s super-dark. But you are putting your ultimate fate in the hands of your partner and that is something you can’t really do without getting married in this country. Decisions about end-of-life care…are usually not afforded to domestic partners. It is something that has to be very explicitly outlined, and it’s not always abided by,” Greenstein said.

“It makes it easier,” Porizkova agreed.

Elsewhere in the episode, Porizkova circled back to the question again. For her, the wedding isn’t just about legal or practical considerations, but most about something more emotional: gathering the people who matter most.

“It’s gathering the people that you love the most around you. So our children, our brothers, sisters, my parents, our best friends, like really the people that really have spent, you know, their love on us, on me, on you, and that, and vice versa. And in front of those people, I will make a promise to stay with you for better or for worse. And that’s what marriage is to me. It is promising the people that matters the most to me, that this is my guy.”

Greenstein admitted that made him “very emotional.”

The couple is reportedly planning to tie the knot in Italy in three weeks after swearing off marriage in the beginning of their relationship.

This will be Porizkova’s second marriage. She was previously married to late rock musician Ric Ocasek until his death in 2019. They announced their separation in 2018, after 28 years together. She shares sons Jonathan and Oliver with her ex.

Porizkova and Greenstein went public as a couple on social media in 2023 and became engaged last summer.
