HGTV Star David Bromstad Doubts He’ll Be ‘Designing in Front of America’ Again After His TV Special

David Bromstad doesn’t anticipate embarking on another design project on camera.

In an interview with Barron Designs posted on YouTube on Tuesday, June 23, the HGTV star, 52, answered a series of questions regarding the completion of his Florida home and was asked what the place means to him.

“It’s been so long since I’ve done any sort of design in front of America, right? And I’m an artist, you know?” Bromstad explained. “I love my job with [My Lottery Dream Home], but I am a creative through and through, so it was really nice to be able to flex my muscles a little bit.”

However, the My Lottery Dream Home host noted that when he first “started doing the design, it was coming from a very different place.”

“I was like, ‘This is the first time, this is probably the first and last time I’ll be designing in front of America,'” he confessed, referring to his HGTV special My Lottery Dream Home: David’s Happy Ending.

Bromstad said once he worked on his mental health, he realized, “I have nothing to prove to anybody but myself.”

“My design is a sneak peek into me as a human. Like, I’m unique. I’m different,” he shared. “I’m relatable, but also, like, completely strange, in the most weird and wonderful way, you know? And that’s my house!”

In the one-hour December special, the HGTV Design Star winner revealed he “was starting to spiral” after a storm destroyed his property, according to People.

“I got into some unhealthy behaviors and it’s really easy to go there when you’re under distress,” Bromstad confessed per the outlet. “Using substances has been … it’s a real easy escape to take yourself out of a stressful situation. I knew I was in trouble.”

Also in the special, Bromstad said that he sought help at a “trauma-based rehab” for a few months, per People.
