With Christmas right around the corner, holiday decorating is in full swing, and the first thing we’re putting out is our best Christmas doormats. Your entryway is the first thing most visitors when they show up on your doorstep, so having a festive doormat is a great way to get everyone in the Christmas spirit before they ever set foot inside your house.

To help find you the most festive welcome mats, we’ve scoured the web with stops at some of our favorite home retailers, including Wayfair and Kohl’s, to track down a selection we truly think you’ll adore.

How to Choose a Doormat

Consider its use: When choosing a doormat, the first thing you’ll want to determine is where it’s intended to go. Outdoor doormats, also known as non-absorbent mats, are designed to catch debris that might be lingering on your shoes and are usually made with “fingertip” bristles that will scrape the bottom of your feet. Typically slip-resistant, they’re also made to withstand extreme weather.

Indoor doormats, meanwhile, aka absorbent mats, are meant to stay inside and have sponge-like capabilities that will soak up any moisture from your shoes. They often have a sticky backing that allows them to stay put.

Consider its material: The next thing you’ll want to take into account is the type of material your doormat is made of. There are many different options to choose from, from coir and rubber to nylon and wood, each with its own benefits. Coir doormats, for instance, are eco-friendly options made from the natural fibers found within coconuts and are known for their strength and absorption properties. Rubber doormats, meanwhile, are highly-durable and non-absorbent, making them ideal for nixing dirt that would otherwise enter your home.

Consider its style: Last, but certainly not least, you’ll want to consider the holiday theme or style you want  to display in or around your home. Some will prefer personalized options that showcase your family’s own members, while others will be overjoyed to see the scenes of the season, like Santa’s reindeer or fluffy snowmen, depicted on their doormat’s exterior.
