Jennifer Lopez Recalls Telling Herself ‘Nobody to Blame’ But ‘Yourself’ Following Ben Affleck Split

Jennifer Lopez has admitted her divorce from Ben Affleck in 2024 was a wakeup call which made her reassess her life.

The pair famously rekindled their romance and married in 2022, but the happiness was short-lived and they divorced two years later.

Speaking on the June 15 episode of the Smartness podcast, Lopez, 56, revealed since then she has moved into a new home and that “everything in my life has changed” in the past couple of years, per People.

She also admitted she shouldered much of the blame for her big life decisions, including trying again with Affleck.

She told hosts  Will Arnett, Jason Bateman , and Sean Hayes: “After my last divorce, I just sat there and I was like, I canceled my tour and I sat there and I was just like, ‘You need to [expletive] figure yourself out. What is going on with you? Forget about everybody else. There’s nobody to blame here except yourself, in a certain way.’”

The singer went on to say that she is much happier now in her new “dream home” which includes horses and stables and her 18-year-old twins Emme and Max, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony. They will begin college at the end of this Summer, meaning more emotional moments for Lopez.

But she feels in a good place and equipped to deal with change now, having moved on from her time with actor Affleck.

Lopez said on the podcast: “I’m also staring down — what is my life now? The past 20 years, it’s been one thing, the past five years has been a tumult, and then the last two years has been kind of the healing process from that tumult where I really got to know myself.”

“The person I am today is so different than the person I was even two years ago, it’s crazy,” she added. “And now I can really look at my life, appreciate it for what it is and what I’ve created for myself and be really happy.”

Lopez and Affleck first dated in the early 2000s and broke up in 2004. Lopez has also been married to actor Ojani Noa from 1997 until 1998, dancer Cris Judd from 2001 until the following year as well as Anthony, 57, who she spent a decade married together from 2004-2014.

Lopez has shut down rumours she is in a romance with Brett Goldstein.. The pair star in Netflix’s new rom-com Office Romance. In March, Lopez told Entertainment Tonight that she “feels free” being single and having moved on from Affleck.
