Brinkley sat down for a cover story interview with Social Life editor Devorah Rose, where she discussed finding positivity in getting older.
“I think that with age you get … freer,” she explained, per a Monday, June 29 report in People. “You do what you wanna do when you wanna do it. I think that there’s a freedom that comes with age that’s quite wonderful. You don’t really care what anybody thinks about your outfit anymore.”
The Uptown Girl author added, “You know what you like. You know what you don’t like. And you don’t feel like you have to put up with the stuff that you don’t like anymore.”
Brinkley also reflected on her past, noting that a lot of her happiness has come from routinely reminding herself how fortunate she’s been to enjoy such an interesting life and career.

“I’ve always been grateful for wherever I am in the moment,” she said. “I always say that I’m happiest in the moment.”
“I’ve loved modeling for over 50 years now because it’s always different every day,” she explained. “A different group of people, a different kind of job.”
Brinkley also talked about the many ups and downs she’s experienced over the years. While she didn’t mention her dating life specifically, she’s had a storied romantic history, including four ex-husbands: Jean-François Allaux, famed musician Billy Joel, Richard Taubman and Peter Cook.
She shares Alexa Ray Joel, 38, with the “Piano Man” musician, as well as both Jack Brinkley Cook, 31, and Sailor Brinkley-Cook, 27, with Peter.
