Caroline Kennedy Remembers Late Daughter Tatiana Schlossberg’s ‘Beautiful, Amazing and Too Short Life’

Caroline Kennedy spoke publicly about her late daughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, for the first time in an emotional speech at the Profile in Courage Awards in Boston on Sunday, May 31.

“We remember Tatiana, who served on the board of this library and represented everything my parents [John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy] stood for in her beautiful, amazing, and too short life,” the 68-year-old said as her voice seemingly began to falter, per the Boston Globe.

Schlossberg died in December at age 35 from acute myeloid leukemia, leaving behind husband George Moran and their two young children, Edwin and Josephine.

In a heartbreaking essay for The New Yorker, Schlossberg revealed that she received the devastating terminal diagnosis shortly after giving birth to Josephine on May 25, 2024.

“I did not — could not — believe that they were talking about me,” the environmental journalist wrote of the treatment plan her doctors devised: chemotherapy, a bone-marrow transplant followed by more chemotherapy. “I had swum a mile in the pool the day before, nine months pregnant. I wasn’t sick. I didn’t feel sick. I was actually one of the healthiest people I knew.”

The Kennedys are, of course, no stranger to senseless tragedy. Thirty-six years after her father was assassinated, Caroline’s brother John F. Kennedy Jr., was killed in a tragic plane crash in 1999.

“For my whole life, I have tried to be good, to be a good student and a good sister and a good daughter, and to protect my mother and never make her upset or angry,” Schlossberg noted. “Now I have added a new tragedy to her life, to our family’s life, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.”
