First look at the upcoming Rainbow Brite installments
Who can forget Rainbow Brite? The adorably colorful character, originally named Wisp, who brought color and joy to even the darkest of places? If you’ve found yourself in need of some nostalgia these days, look no further: Rainbow Brite is back!
Crayola Studios and Hallmark are teaming up to reimagine the next adventure for Rainbow Brite, a character first introduced by Hallmark Cards back in the early 80s. Since her debut, Rainbow Brite has delighted fans with many on-screen adventures, from her 1984 series to her 1985 film Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer and a 2014 mini-series. The next part of Rainbow Brite’s journey—a TV series and feature film—is expected to be just as exciting.
“The reimagined series is set in a magical world and emphasizes themes of friendship, teamwork and the power of color and optimism to overcome darkness and negativity,” said a press release. “Rainbow Brite, a friend, hero, role model and creative inspiration who brings all the colors of the rainbow to the universe, is transported to a dark and gloomy place with a mission to bring color, light and happiness to the world.”
Along with the new Rainbow Brite series, a feature film is also in development—and we can’t wait!
All about the Rainbow Brite movie
Hallmark, Crayola Studios, CAKE and Original Film are leading the next steps in Rainbow Brite’s journey. Additionally, the minds that brought us films like Fast & Furious and Sonic the Hedgehog, Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher, are the two behind the anticipated film.
“In this milestone year for Rainbow Brite, we are thrilled to be working with Crayola Studios, CAKE and Original Film on this vivid reimagining of the beloved brand,” says executive vice president, chief culture and strategy officer of Hallmark Sabrina Wiewe. “It has proved its appeal over the past 40 years, and we can’t wait to strengthen connections with loyal fans and introduce a new generation to the dazzling world of color and imagination.”
Rainbow Brite turns 40
In May of this year, a Hallmark press release in honor of the 40th anniversary of Rainbow Brite shed light on several collaborations with various licensed partners to celebrate the nostalgia.
Funko, Loungefly and other brands released Rainbow Brite merchandise in celebration of her 40th anniversary—and the timing couldn’t have been any more perfect knowing what’s on the horizon for the Rainbow Brite brand! Stay tuned for more developments in the future, as we can’t help how excited we are about these next steps for the brand!
