Before Jackie Kennedy was enjoying White House balls and charity galas as the former First Lady, she spent much of her time at her childhood home in McLean, Virginia. And now, the beloved nine-bedroom, Georgian-style mansion is on the market—complete with original details from Jackie’s own stay.

Merrywood, as the estate was affectionately named, sits on the banks of the Potomac River in a suburb of Washington, D.C. and is currently listed for a whopping $49.5 million. America Online co-founder Steve Case originally purchased the home in 2005 for $24.5 million, which was a record for the time. Now, he and his wife are selling the estate because “they are empty-nesters and are traveling more,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

See the surprising facts you probably never knew about Jackie Kennedy.

Jackie first moved into the home in the 1940s, when her mother married the home’s owner, Standard Oil heir Hugh D. Auchincloss. Writing of the splendor of the estate as a teenager, Jackie once penned: “I always love it so at Merrywood—so peaceful…with the river and those great steep hills.”

Upon peeking into the lavish home, it’s no wonder why it held such a special place in Jackie’s heart. The 23,000-square-foot space features ornate plaster moldings and mauve-colored interiors for an irresistibly elegant finish. Modern updates include an indoor swimming pool, a state-of-the-art gym, and an in-house elevator that provides access to all four floors of the residence.

Even better yet, the most specular feature of the whole estate has to be the stunning gardens, which include “a series of outdoor garden rooms” designed by renowned landscape architect Beatrix Ferrand.

All in all, if the house sells at its asking price, it will hit another record again. We’re pretty sure this beautiful estate is out of our price range, but there’s no harm in dreaming, right?
