This ground turkey recall does not sound good. Prestage Foods, Inc. is recalling more than 38,000 ground turkey items, including Publix products, that may be contaminated with metal shavings and other extraneous materials. Yikes!

The North Carolina company produced said turkey on Sept. 25 and 26. Prestage contacted the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service about the possible contamination on Sept. 27. Plant employees who were sanitizing processing equipment noticed the problem, and one of the retail locations the ground turkey was sent to noticed metal in a package and notified Prestage afterward.

The USDA urges you to throw away or return the products listed below:

1.3-lb. White Styrofoam trays with clear plastic film covering packages containing ground turkey labeled “Publix ground turkey breast WITH NATURAL FLAVORINGS” with ink jet printing on the side of trays displaying the first 4 digits of 7268 and 7269.

These said items were shipped to Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. They have the establishment number “P-22000” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

If you live in those nine states, be sure to check your fridge ASAP!
