Speaking on the Do Good with David Begnaud podcast on Monday, June 1, Stone, 68, recalled the moment a doctor discovered the tumors years ago.
“I am deciding that I will have a bilateral because I’m not [expletive] around. And my husband said, ‘This is ridiculous’ and got up and left the room,” she explained in an episode clip.
Asked which part was “ridiculous” to her then-husband, Stone responded, “That I would have a bilateral.”
“He was furious,” she continued.
“Not the cancer, if it was true, might kill you?” David Begnaud questioned, visibly stunned by the lack of concern.
“No, no,” she said.

“He was mad about the breasts being removed,” Begnaud stated, to which Stone replied, “Yeah.”
Stone said her doctor quickly stepped in, saying, “‘If I had more patients like her, we’d have more alive today. You need to sit down.’ And I said, ‘I make the decisions, not you.’ That was the end of the marriage.”
While Stone did not identify which husband she was referring to in the interview, the Basic Instinct actress has been married twice: first to producer Michael Greenburg from 1984 to 1990 and later to journalist Phil Bronstein from 1998 to 2004.
Stone said she knew at that moment that the relationship was over: “That was it. He was done with me then … It was just over in the room. You could just tell it was over. It was just over. He thought I was ridiculous. He thought I was foolish. He thought I was making too many decisions myself.”
According to People magazine, Stone previously revealed in her 2021 memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, that she underwent surgery to remove benign tumors, which were “gigantic, bigger than my breast alone.”
