Hollywood legend Sharon Stone is opening up about a surprising discovery in her family tree.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Wednesday, April 29, the 67-year-old actress shared that her father came from a lineage tied to wealth and royal roots. Despite that background, Stone told host Drew Barrymore that her family did not inherit that privilege due to longstanding rules that excluded women from receiving assets.
“My dad had come from just inordinate wealth,” she explained, as reported by The Daily Mail. “He [Stone’s Father] had come from a long line of royalty, in fact, and came to America. In his family tree, they were the original oil drillers in Oil City, Pennsylvania.”

The Basic Instinct star recalled that a tragic accident changed everything, as an oil drilling disaster claimed the lives of key family members. The control of the estate was then passed to a young male relative rather than to her grandmother and her children.
“They didn’t get the money because the money didn’t go to women,” she told Barrymore. “The women didn’t have rights.”
Stone revealed that her grandmother took on a nursing job while raising her children under difficult circumstances. Stone also revealed that her father later worked hard to reclaim what was left of the family home.
In 2025, the award-winning actress explored her family history on the PBS series Finding Your Roots, discovering she is a descendant of Charlemagne, a medieval ruler often called the ‘Father of Europe.’

Stone had admitted she was stunned by the connection, which also includes ties to other historical figures in France, as reported by Today.
Stone has long shared that despite her royal roots, both of her parents grew up in difficult circumstances and had to become independent at a young age.
