In a preview of the Tuesday, October 20 episode ofThe Drew Barrymore Show posted on Instagram on October 15, the 52-year-old actress pointed out the stark difference in how society views men and women who have children at an older age.
“There’s a lot of backlash women get for having children older but not men, which is interesting,” Swank told host Drew Barrymore.
Barrymore, 51, seemingly agreed with the Million Dollar Baby star, describing the double standard as “weird.”
The Charlie’s Angels actress added that “men have babies in their like 80s” without facing the same criticism as women who have children later in life.
“You had kids in your 40s and people weren’t always gracious about it,” Barrymore added.

Swank went on to share a comment that particularly resonated with her because she understood the pain behind it.
“This one woman said, ‘How dare you? You’re too old and you won’t be [around] when your kids are older. And my dad was my favorite person and he died when I was in my 20s, my early 20s, and it’s just devastation,'” Swank recalled.
“And I related to it because my dad has also passed but he was one of my favorite people on Earth,” the two-time Oscar winner continued. “So I was drawn to that and I thought to myself, Well I would rather be born and have that person that was my favorite person and experience that than not at all.”
On Wednesday, Swank revealed she’s expecting her third child with husband, Philip Schneider, in a creative Instagram post.
“A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December,” the actress captioned a video of her family dancing in the dark with glow sticks.
Swank and Schneider are already parents to 3-year-old twins Aya and Ohm.
