Amy Poehler isn’t afraid of getting older, and she’s making that clear with her refreshing take on aging.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal published Wednesday, October 28, the 55-year-old podcast host revealed she has come to appreciate getting older, especially in her career.
“Oh, my God, getting older is great,” the Mean Girls actress told the outlet. “Having experience and some wisdom, you have a lot of opportunities where things went badly, and you survived, like you didn’t fall apart.”
Poehler reflected on how her outlook has changed over the years, noting that she’s now more open-minded.

“Your certainty that’s really important in your 20s and 30s — like, ‘I always,’ ‘I never,’ ‘I hate this,’ ‘I love this,’ ‘this is wrong,’ ‘this is right’ — starts to get a little hazier, and I think that’s a good thing for work,” Poehler added. “Because it keeps you more open-minded and curious, and I think less rigid.”
Although Poehler admitted that she gets tired more easily as she gets older, she sees the change in a positive light.
“The capacity that you have for things is maybe smaller, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing,” she explained. “You start to curate what you care about more.”

Poehler also revealed a habit she’s developed with age that she has no plans of giving up.
“I love an early dinner,” she revealed, joking that it’s unacceptable to eat later than 6:30 p.m. “We need to be digesting by 6:45. We need to be on a walk.”
Poehler shares two sons, Archie, 18, and Abel, 16, with her ex-husband, Will Arnett. The former couple married in 2003 before separating in 2012. Poehler has been dating producer Joel Lovell since 2024.
