‘X-Men’ Star Tyler Mane Reveals a Setback in His Breast Cancer Journey Put Things ‘Into Perspective’

Tyler Mane, best known for playing Sabretooth in the 2000 film X-Men, is opening up about his breast cancer journey.

The actor, 59, announced to his Instagram followers in June that he was diagnosed with breast cancer, acknowledging, “Yep, it’s super rare. Only 1% of breast cancers are men.”

In an Us Weekly interview published Tuesday, September 22, the retired professional wrestler provided an update on his health, explaining that he was nearing the end of treatment when he experienced a setback.

“I went through four rounds of chemo, and they found the blood clot after I rang the bell,” Mane revealed. “But we’re dealing with it. I’m on blood thinners for that now, and it’s better to get it taken care of and stick around than not.”

Calling the blood clot “the biggest eye-opener” of his recent health journey, Mane explained, “That puts it into perspective real quick. My doctor got real serious real quick when we realized that we had a blood clot going on in two different places in my leg.”

The clot, he said, was “from my ankle to about three-quarters of the way up my calf, and then it was also behind my knee a bit.”

After learning about the blood clot, Mane thought, “What does it take for something to break off and travel to your lungs or to your heart?”

The Halloween actor — who is going to become a grandparent alongside wife Renae Geerlings — said that he is getting the blood clot treated and is in the “home stretch” of treatment.

According to the American Cancer Society, about 2,670 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year, and about 530 men will die from breast cancer.

Mane’s advice to men out there who may be showing symptoms is to “get in there, get it checked.”

“Worst case scenario, it’s nothing, and they go, ‘Oh, you’re worrying about nothing,'” he said. “The death rate is really high because men do not catch it quick enough. So they’re already in stage III, stage IV, and it’s something that they just don’t think about.”
