Unsightly crow’s feet or droopy dark circles got you down? As we get older, our skin loses moisture and elasticity, making it easier for wrinkles and hyperpigmentation to occur. Luckily, you don’t need to go out and spend a fortune on beauty products to combat the effects of time. Nature has all you need to keep your skin healthy and beautiful, and the help comes in the form of sweet smelling rosehip oil.

Rosehip oil is the oil extracted from the fruit and seed of the rose plant, as opposed to regular rose essential oil which comes from rose petals. It was used historically by the Egyptians as a natural beauty solution because of its many skin-healing benefits and is still coveted today.

Aging skin often becomes dried out, increasing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Rosehip oil is loaded with nutrients, essential vitamins, and fatty acids, that improve hydration, increase elasticity and collagen production, and even brighten the skin. It’s also full of linoleic and linolenic acid — fatty acids which have shown to increase hydration and fight the signs of aging. What’s more, rosehip oil contains a large amount of potent antioxidants like vitamin E, which fight inflammation and deeply penetrate the layers of the skin for even more moisture!

Rosehip oil is also a mild, natural exfoliant, making it a great option if you have sensitive skin but want to rejuvenate your face without harsh chemicals. It’s high in vitamin A, also known as retinol — an ingredient commonly found in many anti-aging beauty products. Retinol is a chemical exfoliant that increases cell turnover to remove dead skin cells and encourage the growth of new cells. Retinol also contributes to collagen production, and more collagen means improved skin elasticity, less wrinkles, and more youthful radiance!

And last but not least, rosehip oil can give your skin and overall brighter appearance because retinol stimulates the production of new blood vessels. Vitamin C, another antioxidant, is also used in many beauty products to brighten skin complexion, as it increases cell regeneration and even helps strengthen the skin’s barrier. For this reason, it’s a great product to use if you struggle with hyperpigmentation or dark circles around the eyes.

You can either replace your nightly moisturizer with rosehip oil, or add a few drops to your daily moisturizer to get all it’s skin-healing benefits. It might make your skin feel too greasy as a daily moisturizer on its own, but that depends on your skin, so feel free to try it out! Make sure that you apply rosehip oil after washing your face as to not clog the pores, too.

The great thing about adding rosehip oil to your skincare routine is that it’s completely natural and therefore, should be harmless. As always, try a test patch on your skin to make sure there are no adverse reactions before applying to your whole face. For extra skin healing benefits, you can dilute a few drops of your favorite essential oils (try lavender for relaxation, or lemon for an even more skin-lightening effect) to your rosehip oil before applying. We love this one from Pura D’or (Buy on Amazon, $14.99).
