Sofia Carson just might be the new queen of romance as photos of her new film, My Oxford Year, recently dropped showcasing the actress in her next role as Anna. Starring alongside Corey Mylchreest, My Oxford Year is likely to be your next romantic comedy obsession.

Known for her time on Disney, Carson has made a name for herself on Netflix in movies such as Purple Hearts (2022), Carry-On (2024) and The Life List (2025). Meanwhile, Mylchreest stole hearts after he starred in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and he is likely to do it again.

My Oxford Year is based on the novel of the same name by Julia Whelan. Learn everything there is to know about My Oxford Year thus far, including its release date, cast and plot details!

When is ‘My Oxford Year’ being released?

As summer comes closer into view, so do a slew of new seasons of your favorite shows and movies you will certainly obsess over. This new romantic comedy is coming out sooner than you may think!

My Oxford Year is set to release on Netflix on August 1, 2025, which is less than three months away. It won’t be long before Carson and Mylchreest are drawing viewers in yet again and you won’t want to miss it.

What is ‘My Oxford Year’ about?

As a romantic comedy, you can likely expect amazing chemistry and hilarious banter between the two leads, but the official logline for the film reads: “When Anna, an ambitious young American woman, sets out for Oxford University to fulfill a childhood dream, she has her life completely on track until she meets a charming and clever local who profoundly alters both of their lives.”

Carson will take on the role of the ambitious Anna, while Mylchreest will portray the charming local, Jamie. Considering how well Carson has been able to mesh with her other co-stars on screen, there is no doubt she will do it again in My Oxford Year. In fact, that’s exactly what director Iain Morris said about his leads.

“They bounced off each other from the first moment they worked together,” Morris said, “and clearly enjoyed trying to make each other laugh—and maybe cry? I hope watching the film allows the audience to run through all the emotions associated with the wonderful, noisy, chaotic, unexpected, funny, heartbreaking experience that is falling in love.”

Who is in the cast of ‘My Oxford Year’?

Carson and Mylchreest won’t be the only familiar faces you see on the screen this August. Joining the stars of the film will be Dougray Scott, Catherine McCormack, Harry Trevaldwyn, Esmé Kingdom, Nikhil Parmar, Poppy Gilbert, Romina Cocca, Yadier Fernández, Nia Anisah and Hugh Coles.

Mylchreest spoke about the cast and how well they all worked together to create such a good film.

“Getting to meet, work, spend time, talk, joke with the cast and crew … they are absolutely crucial to why I think the film is good,” the actor shared. “You can expect some laughs, a lot of love, maybe some sadness, a couple of surprises along the way, but [you can expect] to meet two really lovely, very human characters and all of their amazing friends and family. Get ready for a lovely journey.”

Be sure to tune into My Oxford Year on August 1, 2025, only on Netflix.
