Kyle MacLachlan Predicts Which Project Will Make the ‘First Line’ of His ‘Obituary’

Kyle MacLachlan is known for his performances in many different TV and film projects, but it’s his work on Twin Peaks he believes will get top billing when he dies.

The actor — also known for his work in Fallout, the original Dune, The Flintstones and Showgirls — predicted in his new book Fictional Selves that the David Lynch series will be the “first line of my obituary.”

He made the claim in excerpts from the book provided to People, in which he also opened up about his connection with the show’s creator.

MacLachlan, 67, and the late Lynch first collaborated on Dune, before working together again for Blue Velvet. The actor was then cast as Special Agent Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, reprising the role for the prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me in 1992 and Twin Peaks: The Return in 2017.

“I miss my friend,” MacLachlan said of his constant collaborator, who died of cardiac arrest caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the age of 78 in 2025.

“There’s an emptiness of not having that connection,” he added, explaining the two lived near each other before Lynch’s passing. “I’d come up the stairs, and we would just sit and have a coffee and spend hours taking a trip down memory lane.”

“He’s still alive in my mind. I know he believed in me at times when I didn’t believe in myself,” added the Desperate Housewives alum. “I believed him, and that, sometimes, was all you needed. We were on a journey together.”

In the book, MacLachlan also reflected on falling for his Twin Peaks costar, Lara Flynn Boyle, around the time he split from Blue Velvet costar Laura Dern in the early ’90s.

“She is sexy and edgy, a tough girl from Chicago, the antithesis of anyone I’ve ever been with,” MacLachlan wrote of Boyle. “I was away on location [in the Pacific Northwest] and feeling, ‘This is my town, let me show you some of the cool spots.'”

“We fell into this relationship, and it just destroyed the relationship with Laura. Not my best moment. I did not handle that well, especially for Laura,” he recalled, adding, “thank God, over time, we’ve healed.”
