Lorelai Gilmore is a beloved 2000s character for a plethora of reasons — her undeniable charm and ability to talk her way through anything, the insane coffee obsession that has probably inspired your own, and her undoubted ability to pull out a hilarious quote or crack an absurd joke. If you grew up knowing her, then you grew up loving her (except for a handful of episodes), along with her daughter Rory and the rest of Stars Hollow.

Whether the line was a preposterous comment that did nothing but throw you into a fit of laughter or there was actually some meaning behind it, Gilmore Girls is instantly known for its remarkable dialogue. 1. “Oy with the poodles already!” — Lorelai Gilmore

This hilarious quip comes during one of the infamous Friday night dinners from Lorelai, who realizes “oy” and “poodle” are both very funny words. She masterfully comes up with this phrase which is forever imprinted in every Gilmore Girls lover’s brain.  

2. “This is a jumbo coffee morning. I need coffee in an I.V.” — Lorelai Gilmore

We all have those mornings, but Lorelai really needed that jumbo coffee after dropping her daughter, Rory, off for her first day of school while dressed in cutoff shorts and a tie-dyed t-shirt. If it were us, we’d need coffee in an I.V. too. 

3. “Jerk, ass, arrogant, inconsiderate, mindless, frat boy, low life, buttface miscreant!” — Rory Gilmore

After Rory’s future boyfriend, Logan Huntzberger, pulls a prank of epic proportions, embarrassing her in front of her entire lecture hall, she comes up with this classic Gilmore Girls line. 

4. “It’s a show?” “It’s a lifestyle. It’s a religion.” — Lorelai and Rory Gilmore

The Gilmores might’ve been talking about The Donna Reed Show when they said this line, but this is how we feel about Gilmore Girls. 

5. “I smell snow.” — Lorelai Gilmore

Lorelai is famous for her love of snow (and coffee) so it was no surprise whenever she said these three words.

Friday night dinners are what set the entire show in motion, so when Lorelai and Rory showed up at her parents’ house for the first one, her mother Emily was shocked. After all, Lorelai avoids her parents at all costs, so a random dinner is a big deal. 

7. “People are particularly stupid today. I can’t talk anymore.” — Michel Gerard

We all love Michel for his out-of-pocket one-liners, but this one definitely takes the cake. 

8. “It’s a big, fat, happy sunshine day for me.” — Luke Danes

Look, we love Luke, but sometimes he is as cynical as they come. This line is a classic from the diner owner and we love it. 

9. “Who cares if I’m pretty if I fail my finals.” — Rory Gilmore 

Rory certainly had her head on straight, so when it came time for finals, she didn’t play around. All she cared about was aceing her tests and getting into Harvard (Yale). 

10. “You jump, I jump, Jack.” — Rory Gilmore

We all know Logan is a daredevil, so when he wanted Rory to trust him and jump off a tall ledge, she jumped and quoted this Titanic line. 

11. “I’m attracted to pie. It doesn’t mean I need to date pie.” — Lorelai Gilmore

This is a very Lorelai thing to say, so it didn’t surprise us one bit when she said it. 

12. “It’s all any of us wants: to find a nice person to hang out with till we drop dead.”  — Lorelai Gilmore

Sometimes Lorelai could be pretty blunt and this was one of those times.

Emily is infamous for the absurd number of housekeepers she hires and fires and she isn’t exactly the kindest boss. Still, she says some hilarious things and this was no exception.

Sookie, Lorelai’s best friend, is just as hilarious as the next Gilmore Girl cast member. And considering she is portrayed by Melissa McCarthy, it’s no wonder she had this hysterical line.

A simple cold is just too boring for Lorelai. A haunted leg? Not so much.
