Tatyana Ali is opening up about a deeply traumatic experience that forever changed her perspective on childbirth.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum, 47, revealed on the Monday, April 27 episode of Danielle Fishel’s podcast, Pod Meets World, that her first son’s 2016 birth took a terrifying turn despite the actress having a healthy pregnancy.
According to Ali, once she arrived at the hospital, her birth plan was ignored — and the situation escalated quickly.
“They pushed him back inside me. My baby was all the way crowned,” she said, recalling the moment doctors allegedly pushed her son back inside her body before performing an emergency C-section, adding that she was able to touch his hair.

Ali also shared that she was physically restrained by the arms and legs during labor, describing the experience as “obstetric violence.” Her son, Edward, now 9, later spent several days in the neonatal intensive care unit after the complicated delivery.
Now a mom of two — she also shares son Alejandro, 6, with husband Dr. Vaughn Rasberry — Ali is a passionate advocate for maternal health. The November Rule star says her experience highlights a larger issue and pointed to disparities in care, noting that Black women face significantly higher risks during childbirth.
