The new fizzy drink is set to hit store shelves soon, just in time for your celebrations. So, if you’re someone who loves cracking open a can, you can add it to your wish list. Here’s what to know about the Shirley Temple 7UP soda.

Details on the Shirley Temple 7UP

The new Shirley Temple 7UP combines pomegranate and cherry flavors, putting a fun twist on the iconic childhood drink. It sounds a bit more sophisticated than the original, making it an exciting option for both kids and adults alike. Shirley Temple 7UP will be available in both regular and Zero Sugar options, perfect for all soda lovers. As for sizing, promotional photos appear to show the usual 12 packs of 12-oz. cans and two-liter bottles, however, it hasn’t been confirmed yet if there will be single 20-oz. bottles.

The news broke Wednesday from the snackolater, a self-described insider of all things food on social media. Here’s his Instagram post with the packing designs below.

Though 7UP’s official channels haven’t confirmed the Shirley Temple 7UP release, fans are already bubbling over with excitement.  And while it’s unclear when the new flavor will drop, internet sleuths are predicting mid-to-late October. Major retail chains have already begun displaying the product on their websites, including Target, but it’s currently “out of stock.”

About the 7UP brand

When it comes to the world of soft drinks, you can’t forget 7UP. Known for its crisp, clean taste, its original lemon-lime soda has become an iconic flavor since it was first introduced in 1929 (part of the Keurig Dr Pepper family). Over the years, the brand has expanded its offerings, including Cherry 7UP and Zero Sugar varieties. And you can use them in more ways than one—they’re a popular choice in cocktails and even baked goods.

Making a Shirley Temple drink just might be the perfect creation for 7UP. 7UP’s lime-soda base has long been used in Shirley Temple mocktails, making the Shirley Temple 7UP a fitting tribute: the brand has its own recipe below. Not to mention Pomegranate 7UP and Cherry 7UP flavors have already been created. It now seems about time 7UP serve up a shortcut!

You might say that fans of 7UP have gone a bit “fizzy” on social media. Though 7UP’s latest Instagram post didn’t mention the Shirley Temple 7UP, fans flooded the comments with excitement.  “We need that canned Shirley Temple now,” wrote one user. Another added, “that canned shirley temple better not be a joke.”

Over on the snackolater’s post, people joked how the release had been a long time coming. “Talk about long overdue,” wrote one user, while another said, “I feel like this should’ve been done 15-20 years ago.” However, some criticized the addition of pomegranate flavor: “Pomegranate though? Why did you do that” asked one user. But to the surprise of a few, another user provided an explanation: “The syrup for Shirley temples (grenadine) is made from pomegranates.”

Fans are already thinking of creative ways to use Shirley Temple 7UP, including swapping it into pound cake recipes for a nostalgic twist. “If this is real then the pound cake that’s gonna be made from THIS! Good God!” wrote on excited Instagram user. Other creative ideas include ice cream floats, and let’s not forget the adult “Dirty Shirley.”

What is a Shirley Temple?

For those unfamiliar, the original Shirley Temple is more than just a tasty drink—it’s a piece of Hollywood history. Named after the famous child star who charmed audiences in the 1930s, this non-alcoholic cocktail was reportedly created at the Brown Derby restaurant in Los Angeles.

Traditionally, a Shirley Temple features ginger ale, grenadine and a maraschino cherry, which made it an appealing option for younger guests at public events. Over time, variations have emerged, such as using lemon-lime soda instead of ginger ale, or turning it into a cocktail by adding vodka, known as a “Dirty Shirley.” Despite Shirley Temple herself reportedly not being a fan of the drink, it remains a beloved childhood favorite. And now the original mocktail is set to become a favorite again with the new spin on the Shirley Temple 7UP.
