Celine Dion Will Reportedly Perform at the Paris Olympics Amid Her Stiff Person Syndrome Battle

The famed singer made her arrival in the City of Lights ahead of the Games, exciting fans

Fans of Celine Dion who have been rallying behind her amidst her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) have their fingers crossed that the 56-year-old vocal powerhouse will grace us with her gifts once more.

On Monday, July 22, the singer made her arrival in Paris ahead of the Olympics, and the rumor mill has been churning with talks that Dion will end her onstage hiatus by performing at Friday’s opening ceremony.

This wouldn’t be the first time the singer graced the Olympics with her talents. Back in 1996, she took to the stage in Atlanta, performing “The Power of the Dream.”

Celine Dion’s battle with Stiff Person Syndrome

The singer first revealed her condition back in 2022 via Instagram video. “As you know, I’ve always been an open book,” she began. “And I wasn’t ready to say anything before, but I’m ready now.”

I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through.” The singer went on to reveal that she had been diagnosed with the disease that has altered her life and career for the past several years

What does Stiff Person Syndrome look like for Celine Dion?

A rare neurological disorder, Stiff Person Syndrome presents itself in the form of stiff muscles and muscular spasms.

In an interview with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb, the singer got candid about the reality of her illness, saying, “It’s been very difficult, very painful, challenging, scary.”

Five days a week I undergo athletic, physical and vocal therapy,” she revealed to Vogue France. “I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice… I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself.”

In the early days of her diagnosis, the singer found herself questioning why she had to endure this illness, wondering if she had done something wrong to bring it on. However, she’s since decided to make her peace with it, explaining that she can either put in the work to overcome the obstacles that it places in her path, or she can let it take over and lose the person she has become.

Despite the intensity of her condition, the singer asserted that she will make her way back to the stage — and we sure hope it’s at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony this week!
