Demi Moore wins first Golden Globe for her role in the 2024 film, 'The Substance' (2025)

Demi Moore has made more than a splash in Hollywood, with smash-hit movies like St. Elmo’s Fire (1985), Ghost (1990), Indecent Proposal (1993) and GI Jane (1997). But to everyone’s surprise, the renowned actress shared that her 2025 Golden Globe win last night was her very first major award from the industry.

Moore gave an inspiring speech while accepting her award for The Substance (2024), reflecting on how some dismissed her career and how it shaped her self-perception.

“Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress, and at that time, I made that mean that this is not something I was allowed to have,” Moore began. “That I could do movies that were successful and made a lot of money but that I couldn’t be acknowledged, and I bought in, and I believed that.”

The Substance star went on to comment on beauty standards and how they have affected her mentally. “One thing that I think this movie is imparting: In those moments when we don’t think we are smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.”

Fans and viewers comment on Moore’s first major award win

Following Moore’s incredible win and inspiring speech that followed, fans and viewers of The Golden Globes have been sharing their own thoughts about the actress’ win — and they’re just as uplifting as the speech. Many praised Moore’s inspiring speech and expressed shock that this was her first major award.

One user wrote, “It’s so important to me that The Substance was about the Hollywood industry favoring younger talents over older talents and here is Demi Moore winning her first award at 62. Everyone is on their own timeline, so well deserved for her!!!!!”

Another shared, “That story about someone valuing her as a ‘popcorn actress’ was so emotional, you can hear her voice start to break! Demi Moore, you’re far more than that, and we’re proud you’re finally getting your well-deserved flowers!! CONGRATULATIONS!”

Many others have explained their love for Moore since day one, sharing their disbelief that she’s never won an Oscar, let alone a major award. One in particular said, “What a powerhouse, and I can’t believe she’s never won an award. She is an icon of film, someone who made her mark many times over. It took too long for Hollywood to honor Demi.”

About Demi Moore’s successful career

Moore broke onto the scene as a soap opera star in 1982, when she starred as Jackie Templeton on General Hospital. Following her exit from the soap in 1984, Moore’s success took off as she went on to star in films like No Small Affair (1984) and About Last Night (1986) alongside other members of “The Brat Pack”.

Moore’s career has been nothing if not successful in the nearly 45 years she’s been on our screens, and it seems she has no plans of slowing down. Since The Substance, Moore has been starring in the hit TV series, Landman. Despite Hollywood’s failed attempt at trying to put Moore’s career down, the actress has plans for stepping back into her light and reclaiming her talent, which was clearly proven with her incredible Golden Globes win.
