Bindi Irwin is sharing a deeply personal update about her ongoing health journey — and offering hope to women everywhere.
In a March 30 Instagram post that has since racked up 1 million likes, the 27-year-old shared two photos of herself in a hospital bed, revealing that she has had more than 50 endometriosis lesions, or growths, surgically removed over the past three years as part of her battle with endometriosis.
“Trying to keep my invisible illness to myself after being told by doctors it was just ‘part of being a woman,’ I spent 10 years being undiagnosed,” Irwin wrote. “As a teenager and young woman, I felt weak and deeply insecure. I was trapped in my own body.”
Her surgeries, performed by endometriosis specialist Dr. Tamer Seckin, also included removing a “chocolate cyst,” or a fluid-filled sac that forms on or in the ovaries, typically filled with old, dark brown menstrual blood, per seckinmd.com. Irwin also revealed she underwent an appendectomy and hernia repair.

Irwin described the toll of recovery as “indescribable, inescapable pain,” but remains committed to raising awareness.
“March is endometriosis awareness month,” she added. “No one deserves to suffer in silence,” she wrote. “If you’re in pain, my heart breaks for you. I believe you. Please find answers. And don’t give up on yourself. I know how hard that can be.”
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, often causing severe pain, heavy menstrual bleeding and complications like infertility.
