‘We Were on a Break!’ and 14 More of Our Favorite ‘Friends’ Quotes from Its Iconic 10 Seasons

In each of its 10 seasons, the stars of Friends gave us hysterical moments and iconic quotes that we will never forget. It’s nearly impossible to choose the best dialogue from Friends, especially with Chandler’s hilarious one-liners and Joey’s iconic catchphrase, but thanks to our six favorite friends, audiences got some of the most comical moments in TV history — so what follows  are 15 of our favorite lines from Friends.

15. “I’m not great at the advice. Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?” – Chandler Bing

Everyone loves Chandler for his sarcastic comments, but this line was particularly hilarious. When Rachel asks for Chandler’s advice on a situation between herself and Joey, Chandler hasn’t got helpful words, but he can pull a joke of thin air!

14. “No uterus, no opinion.” – Rachel Green

Even though Chandler was known for the funny one-liners, Rachel pulled it off in this episode. When she thought she might have been having contractions and going into labor, she rushed to the hospital, just to find out she was having Braxton-Hicks contractions. Ross tried to explain that those were “no big deal,” to which Rachel wittily responded, “No uterus, no opinion.” We really want to shout this one from the rooftops!

13. “Sure. Where?” – Chandler Bing

Chandler always had something to say, especially during the emotional series finale. As the gang was preparing to move Monica and Chandler out of the iconic apartment, Rachel suggested they go for coffee first. Chandler, being Chandler, came back with “Sure. Where?” Which is hilarious since most of the series takes place in Central Perk, which is downstairs from their apartment.

12. “I’m gonna go get one of those job things.” – Rachel Green

This was the very beginning of Rachel’s comedic lines, but in the very first episode, Rachel told Monica to wish her luck, as she was going in search of a job, something that was new territory for her.

11. “They don’t know that we know they know we know.” – Phoebe Buffay

During the episodes when Chandler and Monica first got together and were trying to keep their relationship a secret, it took some time for all the friends to be clued in. But when Joey, Rachel and Phoebe finally found out, they decided to prank them into telling the truth.

10. “I KNOW!” – Monica Gellar

Joey isn’t the only one with a catchphrase. Monica often responds to people with, “I know!” Whether it’s in her usual excited tone or she’s irritated as she says it, this is one of the most memorable lines of the series.

9. “I don’t even have a ‘pla’.” – Phoebe Buffay

In this hilarious episode of Friends, Monica and Phoebe attempt to give Rachel advice on her future, but when it doesn’t work out, all the girls wallow for the night. When Monica says she doesn’t have a plan for her life, Phoebe responds with, “I don’t even have a ‘pla’.”

8. “Could I be wearing anymore clothes?” – Joey Tribbiani

“The One Where Nobody’s Ready” is arguably one of the best episodes. As Ross waits for his friends to get ready for his work dinner, the gang fools around, particularly Joey and Chandler. When they start arguing over who sat in whose chair, Joey ends up putting on all of Chandler’s clothing.

7. “Joey doesn’t share food!” – Joey Tribbiani

This one is a given for anyone that knows Joey. He likes girls but he loves food, so don’t try and share with him.

6. “I’m hopeless and awkward and desperate for love.”- Chandler Bing

Chandler came in with this hilarious bit after he scared Janice away early in the series and, seriously, it’s one of his best lines!

5. “PIVOT!” – Ross Geller

It’s impossible to not know the “PIVOT!” scene in Friends. When Ross tries to get his couch up a tight stairwell, he enlists Rachel and Chandler to help. His method: yelling “PIVOT!” every two seconds so they all turn the couch at the right moment.

4. “He’s her lobster!” – Phoebe Buffay

Before Ross and Rachel finally got together, it seemed like nothing made sense between them. But Phoebe compared the couple to a set of lobsters, as they are known to mate for life. She came in with this line when Rachel finally kissed Ross.

3. “Oh… my… god!” – Janice Hosenstein

If you are reading this quote, it’s likely you can hear the words, too. There was nothing quite like this line coming from Janice, especially when it’s unexpected. You’ll just have to hear it for yourself.

2. “We were on a break!” – Ross Geller

Easily one of Ross’ favorite lines to say: “We were on a break!” Ross says this throughout the series, often to let everyone know that in his mind, he didn’t cheat on Rachel because they weren’t technically together at the time. (Even though they were).

1. “How you doin’?” – Joey Tribbiani

And, of course, the most memorable line from the series is none other than Joey’s famous, “How you doin’?” The line perfectly portrays Joey as a smooth talker, but if we’re being honest, that line from him would work on us, too.
